STAY TUNED..."
I, Mark R. Fischer, am a fourth generation pipe organ builder. My father, Paul, author of Making Music, was the plant superintendent at Tellers Organ Company (our descendants) in Erie, PA. In 1972, the Tellers company sold the manufacturing plant to Lawrence Phelps and Associates, among America's finest pipe organ builders of all time. Dad remained as the plant superintendent under the direction of Mr. Phelps. During this time I often recall going through the plant and being fascinated by all operations of the factory. The Phelps company ceased operations in 1979. My father then began Paul E. Fischer Pipe Organ Sales and Service with a concentration on historic reconstruction and restoration. I would frequently help out with tuning, service calls and summer projects. I graduated in 1986 with a BA in Hotel and Restaurant Management but local jobs in the food service industry were scarce. Dad had just signed a contract to re-leather a large three manual organ and needed help. So, I took the job 'until I could find something better.'
I worked full time under dad until his retirement in 2004 when I took over operations of Fischer Organ Company. I ran the company until 2016 when I had an opportunity to move to San Antonio, TX, serving as the general manager for a local organ company. The next exciting chapter of our adventure brings you Fischer Pipe Organ Tuning and Service!
My wife, Dale has been my loyal assistant for the past ten years. Dale is responsible for assisting me with tuning and service calls. She is also the 'voice' of the company. You will likely be speaking with Dale when scheduling arrangements. Dale is musically gifted in her own right and is the most capable assistant with whom I have ever worked.
